The founder of YouImpact, LLC, Anna Redgate, spoke on “Dealing with Trauma” as part of the Florida Association of Community Corrections (FACC) Conference on Friday, July 16th. The conference was held in St. Petersburg, Florida, at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort.
This annual training conference offers keynote speakers, presentations and workshops on a variety of community corrections specialties such as misdemeanor probation, juvenile justice, substance abuse, residential programs, pre-trial services, diversion programs and victim assistance. Attendees of the conference include state judges, corrections officers, corrections specialists and state and local government officials.
The goals of the FACC are to encourage communication and cooperation between agencies and to initiate and support legislation that advances the efforts of prevention, reduction and deterrence of criminal and delinquent behavior. Membership of FACC includes representatives from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, Florida Department of Corrections, U.S. Probation, statewide Sheriff Offices, as well as various private providers.
During Ms. Redgate’s presentation, she spoke of the personal trauma she experienced as a result of the death of her daughter by the hand of an intoxicated driver. She has taken that experience to develop legislation, live victim impact panels, and programming targeted at helping those on destructive paths to make positive life changes.
